Development of new materials holds the potential to provide societal benefits in several problem areas like energy, environment and health. In the Materials Chemistry group, we address the future research needs for new materials that would support and supplement industrial requirements. We develop designer materials by innovative chemical processing of conventional as well as novel materials in bulk powder, thin, ultra-thin and thick film forms. For example, we synthesize and characterize several multifunctional molecular and ceramic materials like self-assembled mono/multilayers, metallic and semiconducting nanostructures, organo-inorganic hybrids, magnetic oxides, electronic ceramics, nanocomposites and bioceramics with specific application potentias.
