The organic chemistry group is engaged in multifaceted research ranging from basic research to industrial chemistry. The scientific focus is on the discovery and development of state-of-the-art organic synthetic methods and exploration of fundamental aspects useful in organic chemistry. The Organic Chemistry Group’s main thrust is on synthesis of molecules with commercial value. Process chemistry, custom synthesis, isolation of natural products and evaluation of bioactivity besides chemical research and development is the hallmark.
The bioorganic group is involved in the synthesis of oligonucleotides, peptidomimetics, synthetic foldamers and biocatalysis with their potential biomedical applications. With its deep understanding of organic chemical mechanisms underlying biological processes the group interfaces chemistry with biology and materials science to characterize enzymes in the biosynthetic pathway.
