CSIR-NCL invites applications for 1. Ph. D in Science 2. Ph. D in Engineering 3. M. Tech in Engineering of the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) in Science and Engineering from eligible candidates, twice every year (for semesters beginning in January and August). Interested candidates are requested to go through the eligibility criteria given below and the details under various links on the left side. Interested applicants should visit the AcSIR website to learn more about AcSIR, application process and deadlines.

Eligibility criteria for Regular candidates

PhD Programme in Science (JRF /SRF):

(i) Master’s degree in Chemical/ Physical/ Biological and related Sciences/ Technology OR a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medicine or B.S of 4 year duration.

AND

(ii) A valid research fellowship offer (JRF/SRF) from UGC/ CSIR/ DBT/ ICMR/ BINC/ DST-INSPIRE/ UGC-RGNF/ UGC-MANF or any other equivalent research fellowship tenable at NCL.

Candidates without any valid research fellowship as mentioned above or those who have qualified only the CSIR/ UGC lectureship (LS) category or GATE or any other national level test without any fellowship are not eligible to apply for the PhD program in Science. Such applications will not be considered.

PhD Programme in Science (industry Sponsored candidates):

Personnel from industry holding a M.Sc. (or equivalent) degree in Sciences

Sponsored candidates who wish to apply for admission to a PhD program (of AcSIR) at CSIR-NCL are requested to get in touch with CSIR-NCL well in advance (preferably before the end of August for the January semester or preferably before the end of March for the August semester) and identify a suitable research advisor depending on the area of research interest of the applicant. The application process will be the same as that for regular candidates. However, sponsored candidates will have to download the filled application form (from AcSIR website) and send the hard copy (by mail or in person) to CSIR-NCL (Student Academic Office, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune 411008) along with the company's No Objection Certificate, a letter of willingness from a Group IV scientist in NCL to be the guide, a passport size photograph, degree certificates, grade/ marks sheets, caste certificate and any other relevant documents. The hard copy of the application along with all relevant documents should reach CSIR-NCL before the last date stipulated by AcSIR. The screening and selection procedures will be the same as that for regular candidates. See AcSIR website for more information.

Project Assistants currently working at the National Chemical Laboratory are eligible to apply for AcSIR’s Ph.D. program at NCL, if they fulfill all the requirements specified by AcSIR and the National Chemical Laboratory. Please watch out for the advertisement at CSIR-NCL and file your application (on line at the AcSIR website) as specified in the advertisement.

PhD Programme in Engineering:

Eligibility Criteria for PhD (Engineering), Integrated Dual-Degree PhD (IDDP) and M.Tech.in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering and Computational Biology and bioengineering Program is as follows.


Programmes 

Eligibility Criteria

PhD in Engineering

(i)      A Master’s degree in Engineering or Technology in relevant disciplines (such as in chemical/polymer/petrochemical/Bioengineering /Biotechnology Engineering/Technology)following a four-year engineering/technology; or an integrated minimum-5-year M Tech degree in relevant disciplines; or equivalent or with Master’s degree in science
AND
(ii)     At least one of the following
(a)     Awarded a national-level fellowship (such as NET JRF) tenable at CSIR institutes
(b)    Meeting all the conditions required for eligibility for the CSIR-SRF
(c)     Meeting all the conditions for award of the INSPIRE fellowship (typically awarded to students ranked first in the University)
(d)    Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for Project Assistants to register for a PhD
(e)    Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for industry-sponsored* students.

Integrated Dual-Degree PhD (IDDP) in Engineering

(i)      A 4-year undergraduate degree in Engineering or Science (such as BE/BTech/BS)in relevant disciplines (such as in chemical/polymer/petrochemical/Bioengineering /Biotechnology Engineering/Technology), or a five year degree in relevant disciplines in Science (such as MSc), or equivalent
AND
(ii)     At least one of the following
(a)     Awarded a national-level fellowship (such as NET JRF) tenable at CSIR institutes
(b)    Meeting all the conditions required for eligibility for the CSIR-GATE-JRF
(c)     Meeting all the conditions for award of the INSPIRE fellowship (typically awarded to students ranked first in the University)
(d)    Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for Project Assistants to register for a PhD
(e)    Meeting all the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for industry-sponsored* students.
* with endorsement from Industry, Academic or Research Institutes for required academic leave and financial support during program.

M.Tech.in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering and Computational Biology and bioengineering

(i) A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or 4/5 year science degree or equivalent degree of not less than four years’ duration in relevant disciplines (such as in chemical/polymer/petrochemical/Bioengineering /Biotechnology Engineering/Technology) or with Master’s degree in science in relevant disciplines
AND
(ii) At least one of the following:
(a)     Awarded a national-level fellowship tenable at CSIR institutes
(b)    Qualifying all the conditions required for eligibility for the CSIR-SRF, or CSIR-GATE-JRF
(c)     Qualifying the conditions for award of the INSPIRE fellowship (typically awarded to students ranked first in the University)
(d)    Qualifying the conditions stipulated by AcSIR for industry-sponsored *students
(e)    A valid GATE score, or CGPA ≥ 8.0 from a CFTI at the BE-level examination
* with endorsement from Industry for required academic leave and financial support during program.
