Conducting polymers (CPs) exhibit unique electronic properties unlike its insulating counterparts. Therefore, CPs are utilized as materials in variety of devices, but the CPs utility is not limited to devices alone. The PSE group is involved in design and synthesis of conjugated monomers and polymers for targeted applications. The rationally designed polymers are used as active material in devices such as solar cells, organic field effect transistors and supercapacitors. Small conjugated molecules are used in batteries. The CPs have been utilized as transducer and as a coating in membrane separation. Most of the research is funded by government agencies. However, recently some of our efforts are funded by industries, which indicates the relevance of our research to industries. The PSE group also developed approaches to prepare conducting carbon materials using conjugated small molecules and polymers that are being used to develop paints.
