Polymer Membrane Technology

Overview

The group is involved in Membrane S&T for chosen separation applications of industrial and societal significance. Membrane making and performance investigations for Ultrafiltration, gas separation, PEMFC, Chemodialysis (separation of functional organics) and Forward Osmosis (FO) is followed by scale up of promising membranes in continuous flat sheet (spiral modules) or hollow fiber form. In some cases, prototype preparation demonstration, their 3rd party evaluations led to tech-transfer for membrane manufacture (two in UF and one in gas separation application). The group also has successfully developed inorganic hollow fiber membranes for catalysis and some niche applications through material collaboration in catalysis group. The facilities required for membrane casting/spinning module making, analysis, etc. are developed indigeneously, following ‘Make in India’ in true sense.
