Bioorganic chemistry is a highly interdisciplinary area which utilizes organic chemistry concepts and tools to study the biological processes including biomolecules such as peptides, proteins, nucleic acids, natural products, carbohydrates, lipids etc. Bioorganic chemistry bridges the gap between organic chemistry and biochemistry. The field also explores the utilization of biological components and systems for developing novel chemical processes. Bioorganic chemistry/ chemical biology at CSIR-NCL took off in early 1980s. Since then, several research groups have been actively working in the area of peptides, Nucleic acids, Natural products, Carbohydrates, Biocatalysis, Biosynthesis, etc.
