Pune city is the cultural and educational capital of the state of Maharashtra. Traditionally, Pune has been the bastion of Marathi culture and language. The city occupies a special place in Maharashtrian mind as the Maratha warrior Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj grew up here in seventeenth century. The ancient history is reflected in many monumental displays that one can not miss to see in Pune and its adjoining areas. Known as the Oxford of the East and the Detroit of India, Pune, today, is transforming into a vibrant modern city with bubbling activities in IT and Hi-Tech sectors. The city has everything to offer, such as an international airport, many prestigious educational institutes, industries, defense establishments, research laboratories and medical centers. There are several tourist attractions in and around Pune, such as Agakhan Palace, Shaniwar Wada, Kelkar Museum, Raj Bhavan, Film and Television Institute, Empress Garden, Synagogue, Sinhagad Fort, Jejuri Temple and the Karla Caves near Lonawala.
Weather at the time of NMRS-2007 will be sunny, quite dry and very pleasant. The temperature usually lies in the range 15-30°C. Light warm clothing is recommended. Pune City
