Indo-German Workshop
on
Microreaction Technology
March 4-5, 2009

National Chemical Laboratory
Pune – 411 008, India
GENERAL
SCOPE:
The developments in chemical industry are undergoing
a significant change via interdisciplinary research and are rapidly broadening
the application horizons. Apart from making the processes energy efficient,
attention is also being given to the development of green processes that would
increase the yield of the desired product. A new tool of microreaction
technology has emerged in last few years for expediting R&D for process
development and process intensification. Microreactors are miniaturized and compact
reactors and process equipment, which allow continuous production of chemicals
by providing significantly higher transport rates. With
wide acceptance from the research labs and the chemical industry in the western
world and Japan, the Indian chemical, pharmaceutical and allied industry need to
proactively take lead in working with the new technology that drives in several
benefits. With this view in mind, a joint workshop on microreaction technology
with German researchers who have pioneered this technology has been organized at
the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune on March 4-5, 2009. This
workshop will help to bring out the relevance of this technology in the chemical
industry and its facets that would help to overcome several of long standing
issues.
THEME:
VENUE:
The workshop will be held in the city of Pune,
erstwhile capital of the Marathas. Pune is a place where the past meets the
present. Traditionally known for its educational and research establishments,
Pune “the Oxford of the East” today is a multifaceted city. It is a major
industrial centre and is home to major auto and software industries. Pune has
pleasant climate all the year round. Pune can be reached by air, train and by
road and is well connected to major metropolises in India.
FORMAT AND PROCEEDINGS: The workshop will last for 2 days and will consist of invited lectures
and poster contributions. All the lectures are by invitation. There will be
equal number of lectures by speakers from Germany and India. The focus will be
on the present status of microreaction technology including a major thrust on
its applications in the chemical industry. A poster session (for students and
also for industrial participants) will also be organized. The workshop will also
have two panel discussions on ‘Continuous
Flow Chemistry: Avenues and Limitations’ and ‘Industrial Relevance of
Microreactors’. The
official language of the workshop is English. The workshop attendants will
receive the book of extended abstracts of all the contributions at the
registration desk.
